Daphne's Barbados is the Caribbean outpost of the well-known London restaurant of the same name and sits directly on the beach at Paynes Bay in St. James, next to the Tamarind hotel. The menu is modern Italian with a strong emphasis on seafood — handmade pasta, grilled fish, carpaccio and wood-fired dishes — served in an elegant open-sided dining room with the waves a few feet away. It is one of the west coast's long-standing special-occasion spots and trades on a quiet glamour rather than anything flashy. Dinner runs nightly from 6:30pm; booking ahead is the norm.
