Cattlewash Beach

East Coast · St. Joseph

Rating: 4.6 / 5

North of Bathsheba in St. Joseph, Cattlewash is a long, windswept ribbon of Atlantic sand backed by casuarina trees and the low green ridge of the Scotland District. Named for the days when farmers drove their cattle here to bathe in the salt water, it's now a favourite with surfers, horse riders, and anyone who wants a taste of the wilder side of Barbados. Swimming is dangerous because of strong rips and heavy shorebreak, but the beach itself is one of the best long walks on the island. Round House, the Atlantis Hotel, and Bathsheba's rum shops are all within a short drive for lunch.
